Meet Michelle Baker
Michelle Baker is a lifelong Mississauga resident, proud mom, and public sector leader with more than 20 years of experience delivering results across Ontario. She's running for Ward 2 Councillor because she wants to help ensure it remains a safe, welcoming and affordable place where families can put down roots and future generations can thrive.
For more than 20 years, Michelle has worked in and around government, gaining a deep understanding of how decisions are made—and, more importantly, how to turn good ideas into action.
Most recently, Michelle served as Executive Director of Ontario's Big City Mayors, representing the interests of Ontario's largest municipalities and advocating for the resources and solutions cities need to better serve their residents. During her time there, she helped lead advocacy on some of the most pressing challenges facing communities, including housing, infrastructure, public safety, homelessness, mental health and addictions.
Michelle previously served as Acting Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Mississauga, where she worked on strategic planning, policy and the issues affecting residents across the city. She also held senior roles with the Ontario government, including with the Ministries of Finance, Transportation, and Municipal Affairs and Housing, as well as serving as an advisor to the Premier.
Why I'm RunningFor years, Michelle has advocated for municipalities to have the tools, funding and support they need to deliver better for residents. Now, she wants to take that experience and put it to work directly for the people of Ward 2.
Michelle believes municipal government should focus on the things that make a difference in people's everyday lives: keeping neighbourhoods safe, making every tax dollar count, maintaining great parks and public spaces, improving our roads and infrastructure, and managing growth thoughtfully.
Most importantly, she believes residents deserve a Councillor who listens, shows up and gets things done.
Michelle knows what makes Mississauga special because she has experienced it firsthand, as a resident, a professional and a mom raising the next generation here. She's ready to protect what we love about our neighbourhoods while working to make them even better for the future.
